writing a scientific review guide

Writing a scientific review is a complicated process that requires special attention from you. So, what do you need for writing a scientific review? First of all, you are going to need something to write your review about. This can be a scientific article, book, dissertation, etc. However, writing a scientific review does not limit to these works only.

What to write about: Some peculiarities of writing a scientific review

Before you start writing a scientific review, you should know which structure your review should have. Basically, the structure of a scientific review is the same as of a regular review:

  • The writing of a scientific review should begin with an introduction where you have to present the work you are reviewing.
  • Your introduction should end with a thesis in which you either state the purpose of your writing a scientific review or present the arguments (for instance, why you liked/disliked a particular work, what is so special about this work, etc).
  • Then you lay out your arguments in a logical and coherent way. Note: do not forget about the linking elements between the paragraphs!
  • End your review with a nice conclusion summarizing your main arguments. Do not forget to proofread your review (this, however, should be done with every paper you have to write).

One more important thing to know for writing a scientific review is special vocabulary. Though this might be very complicated for you, using scientific vocabulary is vital for writing a scientific review. Try to sound confident because, if you are reviewing somebody’s scientific work, this means that you know much about a particular branch of science.

Finally, remember that writing a scientific review requires you to be diligent. Do not leave your review for the last minute. Spend some time reading and analyzing the work that you have to review before you begin.
